This Future Faculty Database (FFDB) serves a dual purpose:
(1) FFDB provides a portal that allows universities to advertise and manage programs that encourage academic careers using an online application system.
(2) Applications to this system comprise a database collection of prospective Ph.D.'s and postdoctoral scholars who are interested in academic careers. The FFDB provides an easy source that is open to searches by Faculty Search Committee members to proactively recruit for open faculty positions.
With funding from the National Science Foundation ADVANCE (Increasing the Participation and Advancement of Women in Academic Science and Engineering Careers), Rice and Northeastern Universities have established Future Faculty Workshops. These Workshops are designed to encourage women and underrepresented minorities to consider and pursue academic careers. After several years of successfully leading the workshops, these two universities combined their resources to create and maintain a valuable, sustainable database for all universities seeking to diversify their faculties.
